To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Chandos issued this box set containing 30 complete recordings, reproducing the original covers on each sleeve and including a brief sentence as to why each one was chosen. There are the first recordings of artists and ensembles such as Nigel Kennedy and the King's Singers; and recordings by artists at the beginning of their careers: Delius' Sea Drift featuring Bryn Terfel, the Sixteen performing Handel's Chandos Anthems (an apt choice of repertoire), and Mariss Jansons conducting Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5. Chandos' important series are represented by their first releases: the complete works of Percy Grainger; the orchestral works of Sergey Prokofiev with Neeme Järvi; the "Chandos Movie" series conducted by Rumon Gamba; the "Opera in English" series opener, Highlights from Der Rosenkavalier. Understandably, there are also award-winning recordings: Vaughan Williams: A London Symphony; choral works by Charles Villiers Stanford; Bax's Symphony No. 4. A full catalog of all of Chandos' recordings (to 2009) is also enclosed.
