The Art of Edith Mathis - Box Set 7CDs

Label : DG
Format : Flac track
Cover : Yes

7 CDs celebrating Edith Mathis’s 80th birthday (11 February 2018), through a selection of her most treasured recordings from 1960 to 1984, of opera, oratorio and Lied.

First CD and digital releases of a selection from Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch with Karl Engel.

The admired Swiss soprano, Edith Mathis, received her musical training at the Lucerne Conservatory, and completed her studies in Zurich. Following successful debuts in Zurich, Bayreuth, Cologne, and Hamburg she was cast by Karl Böhm as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, and Cherubino proved to be the central role in Edith Mathis’s repertory during her early career. Böhm was also undoubtedly the conductor who left a decisive mark on Edith Mathis’ aesthetic parameters and it was he who introduced her to Deutsche Grammophon.

Mathis’s versatility is displayed in her recordings of Bach with Karl Richter; celebrated recordings of Mozart with Karl Böhm; Carlos Kleiber’s legendary Der Freischütz; Mahler Symphonies with Kubelik; Berlioz’s Damnation de Faust with Seiji Ozawa; and the role she created in Henze’s 1965 opera Der junge Lord with Christoph von Dohnányi. Alongside her operatic roles, Edith Mathis also has an extensive Lieder and oratorio repertory. This collection includes her complete Schumann with Christoph Eschenbach, Mozart songs with Bernhard Klee, vocal ensembles by Brahms and Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch with Karl Engel.

  2. Given this site's terrible incapacity lately, I refuse to download these links in vain unless someone comments and assures us that they unrared them without problem. Same with the Christa Ludwig Box Set.
It's such a shame. I've been downloading 15 years from 100 different pages, blogs, sites, I've never come across such behaviour - not bothering reading your fans' comments reporting problems for over a month now! Not giving a damn...! Tragic!

  3. I have just downloaded the first file and it unrars correctly. This blog is amazing and everything works like a charm.

Of course, feel free to stop downloading and, most importantly, complaining, and move on.

  4. Please read the comments on PHILIPS DUO series. So many adverse comments from so many people.

That series is like a sumptuous spread at a dinner, until you taste the food and realize a lot of the food is bad. Looks good only.

Yes, much of the music available here is wonderful and are ripped properly, but please do not apply "everything works like a charm" to PHILIPS DUO.

  5. @Dimitris;

If they don't unrar, you should first investigate what's wrong with your unrar tool rather than keep blaming, on several posts, Thang and other users thanking him.
Google "RAR5" and update (or replace) your unrar tool. JDownloader also supports it if you download its beta test library.

  6. I'll try that, thanks.

  7. Have you read the comments on PHILIPS DUO?

It is NOT just unzipping problem! It is also the music in the files themselves. Take for example, the Mozart Violin and harpsichord duo CD. Near the end of one track, suddenly the violin and harpsichord music cuts off abruptly and instead a piano concerto with full orchestra is heard! Who pasted the piano concerto onto the chamber music?? This is not only bad ripping, but someone's very sick joke of pasting a piano concerto into a piece of chamber music! So, even if you unrar properly with the latest RAR5, I don't think you can remove the piano concerto as if by magic.

So, Pippo9 should not have posted such music taken from dubious or unknown source and author, assuming it is NOT his personal rip. The internet is FULL of such places, just as there are also very good and music knowledgeable sites. You just have to figure out which.

If Pippo9 continues like this, I am afraid this website may start to slip into the untrustworthy category. I remember downloading the 52-CD Johann Strauss edition from the old mega server website many years ago. Every disc was well ripped and perfect. How about sticking to THAT kind of standard?

  8. Let's be realistic and not demand too much. If "music taken from dubious or unknown source" had to be removed, I wonder how many posts on this site could survive and if that's what most users would like to see. Sure, such bad rips appear occasionally but most uploads here are just fine.
I'd suggest users report such problem discs or tracks in detail on the post and hope another kind heart to upload a fine rip when, in most cases, it's obvious Thang has no fix for it.

  9. This site is amazing but some people just like to complain.
If you do not like it, buy the cds. I dont have any problems unzipping and almost no problems listening, so Dimitris stop complaining go somewhere else ok.
The only thing is that some are not clean flacs but....

  10. When a file won't UnRAR:
    1) Open it in the RAR utility
    2) Select REPAIR. This creates a new file, fixed.filename.rar, which should work.

The PHILIPS DUO situation was special, because the APE files had become corrupted before they were posted.
