This set is the second in a series of guest performances by Karel Ančerl from the Concertgebouw Orchestra, released simultaneously on the Altus label. It is based on a live performance on Concertgebouw, Amsterdam 21 January, 1970 [Haydn: Symphony No. 92; Franck: Symphony in D minor; Rachmaninov: Rhapsody Paganini]. Prokofiev - Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, 23 February, 1969; Haydn: Symphony No. 104 (Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra) Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, 6 July 1970. The interview was recorded in Prague in July 1968. Although it was recorded on a microphone, the recording, which includes copious hall reverb, is probably one of the finest live recordings of the time, along with the state of preservation of the master tape.
