    If your main interest is the 1956 Salzburg performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 with Haskil and Karajan, AVOID this ICA issue, where the digital transfer is muffled and filtered, with steely and edgy piano sound and an unaccountably loud, strange and scratchy noise in the middle of the 2nd movement. The best digital transfer of this live recording comes from Tahra (TAH628 - "Piano Archives: Clara Haskil joue Mozart"), which gives due prominence to Haskil's pearly, sculpted articulation and phrasing and the overall sound is much warmer and clearer than ICA. There is also no strange noise in the middle of the 2nd movement in the Tahra issue.       By the way, this 1956 Salzburg performance is the one that moved Russian pianist Tatiana Nikolayeva to tears and she declared after the concert that Haskil is the greatest Mozartian she had ever heard (whereas Karajan's conducting of the 39th Symphony disapppointed her).

      I haven't heard the Karajan, but he has never been one of my favorites. Yes, Tahra was the best ever. I also found Annie Fischer's ICA release really bad.

      For Annie Fischer's BBC recordings of those few Beethoven piano sonatas, fortunately I'm still keeping the old 1996 BBC Radio Classics/Carlton CD issue. A lot of ICA historical issues were remastered by Paul Baily and his Re: Sound studio and they have a history of spoiling and botching many historical recordings in the past, e.g. the 1958 Covent Garden Traviata has a brief episode of Callas's warming-up vocalising backstage when the Act 1 Preclude is played but Baily and his team's over-filtering erased that precious episode out.
