I just saw Gérard Poulet performing Bruch's Scottish Fantasy with a local orchestra in Tokyo. Don't much care for the piece, but the performance was excellent. Then, Maestro Poulet generously came out for an encore of a Bach unacompanied violin sonata movement---and his performance completely took my breath away! I was literally on the edge of my seat, it was so moving and perfect in execution! Absolutely the finest solo violin performance I have ever heard. Then I looked at his bio on Wikipedia and discovered he is 2 months shy of his 86th birthday!!!!! Superhuman!!!! So many thanks for making available this performance of the great Gérard Poulet! Unfortunately again on not such fantastic concerto material, but in any case, I am grateful to you for this!!
