ReplyDeleteI know it's a losing battle, but I would really like that at least in the sites dedicated to lovers of classical music we stop with the idiocy of calling Mozart's piano concerto No.21 "Elvira Madigan".
ReplyDeleteIt was the DG in the aftermath of the release of the film, which used the second half of the concert as a soundtrack, to use the nickname as a publicity stunt to sell the album starring Geza Anda. The protagonist of the film - the Danish acrobat Elvira Madigan - was born in 1867, so she has evidently nothing to do with Mozart.
You are 100% right. It's the silliest, most insufferable nick a piece of classical music has ever been given, solely for publicity purposes. It's like calling Strauss's Zarathustra "Space Odyssey"
Cordialement,
