Just checked all 220 discs (currently 30.05.2018) of the Philips Duo Collection that I have downloaded from Pippo (“Diabolus In Musica”) – mostly by checking file size – only found one that was below the normal CD size of the collection, and that was of today’s upload (Rachmaninov piano concertos – Kocsis) – but re-downloaded it and that was then OK. Sampled about one in every ten of all 220 discs using VLC. All played OK without exception.
Now playing the collection in random mode (shuffle) in MusicBee – all seem to be playing OK – so far.
I do notice that some of the files are of the entire CD in one file – not separated into individual tracks – I understand that this can be rectified by some clever software – beyond me though – an occasional long track of a whole work/CD is, I guess good, for the soul? Doesn’t worry me unduly.
So happy that Thang Nguyen has been so generous in sharing this collection with us.
NB: An additional observation:
I use both MediaMonkey and MusicBee to play my D/Ls contained on my hard drive. Playing the current 200 Philips Duo Collection in each of these two players results in the following findings:
MediaMonkey: 454 files and 134.2gb memory MusicBee: 5,847 files and 134.1gb memory
So it seems that MusicBee splits up a CD into it's component tracks, whereas M/M doesn't to the same extent.
Thanks for all that info. I've tried splitting the Schumann with Media Monkey, XRecode and Foobar all with the same result ie failures in some files. if you have these and the Albinoni and Haydn albums I'm sure many of us would value a posting
Er, for me the ones I'd like to hear are the Schumann in this collection ie Symphonies by Muti. I imagine the others are the Albinoni Concertos above and the Haydn symphonies above. Many thanks
For those having problems splitting using Medieval CUE splitter and others, you could try using MusicBee. MusicBee is free program. It splits the problem CDs successfully, after I tried unsuccessfully with Medieval.
Some files are definitely corrupted. I played them with foobar and MusicBee. Both tools reeact differently to that: foobar skips to the next track, whereas MusicBee makes a small pause, and continues with the same track. You should get the same results, Douglas. Check it with the 5th track of Albinoni vol.1, for example.
Douglas is right. For example with Albinoni (http://uptobox.com/ijyz0lqqcm1k/464052.rar), the track 15 is corrupt : you can't read it with Foobar2000 (stop at second 5). With MusicBee, you can read it BUT with a BLANK at second 5.
Been playing the Albinoni double CD that you refer to - not sure whether I played the exact track as you, but did find a very, very small pause, almost as if there was a glitch in the the wifi - less than one second duration. I can live with that.
So is MusicBee considered to be a good media player? Thought it would be considered to be "too popularist", what with all the colours, etc. It suits me fine. Now prefer it to MediaMonkey, and definitely prefer it to Foobar - however Foobar Remote is OK and user friendly.
Now playing the entire Philips Duo Collection (all 5,847 files - 21.9 days remaining) in shuffle mode - to get an acceptable programme/concert.
Another version of the album Schumann’s Symphonies.I decrypted broken files and made a complete restoration of both disks. Evaluate the quality of my work. If necessary, I can do restoration of audio to order.Link https://uptobox.com/0flxvi41ztkl .The remaining three albums were found elsewhere and put on upload to uptobox, can unload until the morning, I have a slow ADSL Internet.

Schumann symphonies corrupted files and will not convert or play without errors. Be grateful for a repost
ReplyDeleteSame with Albinoni. Would be great if you could repost it.
ReplyDeleteAlso with Haydn's symphonies (vol. 1)

ReplyDeleteHi Folks,

Any comments why this might be the situation?
Keep up the good work.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments:
ReplyDeleteWhich files do you need?
Schumann, Albinoni and Haydn? Would appreciate it if you could be more specific.
I'm sure that I will only be duplicating exactly what you already have.
Let me know.
Cheers,
Douglas (UK)
Thinking a bit more .........
ReplyDeletePresumably the ones mentioned above?
That's about 20 files or so?
And how would I go about sending them to you or posting here? And do we need Thang Nguyen's permission to do so?
And are they the ones that I have saved on my hard drive - I'm sure they will not have a "url" that you can use.
You will have to lead me through it in very simple-gentle stages.
I'm a tech. novice.
Cheers,
Douglas (UK)

ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteBut, how do either upload them here or send them to you?
ReplyDeleteExplain in simple non-techy speak. I am not computer literate.
Happy to oblige, if I am able.
Cheers,
Douglas (UK)

Thanks to Thang Nguyen for his job!
