The memorial project commemorating the 70th anniversary of Furtwängler's death is an unprecedented 80-disc collection of the first and last live recordings.
It has been 70 years since Wilhelm Furtwängler (January 25, 1886 - November 30, 1954) passed away, but his influence extends even to modern conductors, and even now, no one can surpass him. This 80CD collection includes valuable masterpieces from the following six labels that have been passionate about reproducing masterpieces by great masters.
Tahra was founded in 1993 by Myriam, the daughter of great conductor Herman Scherchen, who was also close friends with Furtwängler, and Rene Tremine, a leading figure in the French Furtwängler Association, and has now ceased operations. However, with the official approval of the widow and other related organizations, many original recordings from broadcast stations and other sources have been reprinted on CD. Fans all over the world were thrilled by the wonderful sound quality that brought to mind the essence of the great master, who had previously only been able to listen to poor sound quality. There are 41 Tahra discs, and 19 Grand Slam discs, which are known for their excellent reproductions of Furtwängler's sound sources, are released on the label run by music critic Naoya Hirabayashi, and were released for the first time in the world on the Cetra label in Italy in the 1980s. A total of 80 CDs, including 16 DISCOS (released by King Records under the SEVENSEAS label) that produced the LP, 2 Epitagraph, 1 Japan Furtwängler Association, and 1 VENEZIA. The structure is as follows.
Beethoven's "Ninth", which Furtwängler is said to have loved the most, has been confirmed to exist in 12 complete recordings, of which 9 are included! "Berlin's Ninth" from 1942 (CD2) , 1 month later "Ninth at Hitler's Birthday Eve Festival" (CD3), "Ninth in Stockholm" in 1943 (CD9), "Ninth in Vienna" in 1951 (CD34), "Ninth in Bayreuth" in 1951 9 (CD39), 1952's ``Vienna Ninth'' (CD49), 1953 ``Otto Nicolai Concert No. 9'' (CD62), 1 day difference in performance the next day ``Vienna Art Week No. 9'' (CD63), and the last “Lucerne Ninth” (CD79) in 1954. Similarly, we have included 7 types of ``Eroica (Hero)'', 8 types of ``Fate'', and 5 types of ``Pastoral'' from the master Beethoven's signature songs. Please fully enjoy the subtle and drastic differences in Furtwängler's live performance.
