ReplyDeleteI use JDownloader and it is able to download in parallel several files and automatically retry in case of download error. I would suggest to give a try (just google JDownloader)

ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of problems with the flac files. I get both coding troubles as my player, foobar2000, cannot open them and shows "Unsopported file format" message (i.e. Debussy Prelude d'une faune at CD 26, track #5) and many tracks start in the middle of music, not from the beginning (CD25, CD40, CD43, CD50, CD51, CD52 etcetc). Does anybody else get the same matters?
ReplyDeleteUse VLC Media Player to convert damaged .flac to .wav (audio-CD), and then use Audition or VLC (or some other converter) to convert the file back to .flac. I believe you can fix all files this way, but sometimes there are some minor audible errors (short skips, clicks, etc.).
ReplyDeleteI've found that if you convert them to WAV and back again to FLAC, the files are fine and the metadata is intact. I use dbPoweramp to do the job.
ReplyDeleteStrike that bit about dbPoweramp to convert to WAV. It was Wavepad I used. I just open the files and resave them as WAV. Then I use DBPoweramp to convert back to FLAC

I trust the files are still on the uploaded server, but the painful AdF.ly is now dead, at least where I try. We need to uoloded links.

I confirm that flacs on CD 50 and 54 are 'corrupt' but not fatally. On my PC, foobar and dbpoweramp fail on them. The quickest way to correct I found was to batch convert to APE using LameXP (in compression setting ape, or wav if you prefer).

Loads of corrupt FLAC tracks, producing different errors in different players and converters. VLC doesn't always work, nor do foobar, dbpoweramp, LameXP or even audacity. I have not found a consistent way to repair, and lost confidence in this upload. Don't waste time here.
I've found that the corruption is, in a lot of cases I've discovered, down to the embedded artwork which is so enormous at 18Mb that it shows as an inability of the file to open at all. I used MP3Tag to strip the artwork out of the files after which all was well and the files behaved themselves normally.
ReplyDeleteI thoguht I'd chip in. Since I don't like single file cds, I always convert to tracks using foobar. My advice is use cuetools to re-encode to flac but untick the 'copy album art tags' and 'embed folder .jpg' in the tagging tab, on the settings menu. Haven't started to dl this box yet (Still grappling with te king of high c (he's a tough fat bastard)) May de Kar be with you
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion, Yellow Jester. I removed the image and padding as you suggested, but unfortunately that didn't solve the problems others have noted above (cd25, track5, unplayable; tracks that start mid-movement). A huge pity that this wonderful collection is marred.
ReplyDeleteFix, thanks for your suggestion but I'm discovering the corrupted files are really too much. Besides in some of the "health" files I hear clicks that are typical of mp3s. I'm strongly doubtful around the lossless quality of this upload that's why I've been stopped being interested in it.

For the first movement, I'm missing the second or two of silence that usually commences a track, and then the half-second of the strings beginning to vibrate. It starts too suddenly. Same for track 2, etc. But this might be a question of how it was mixed.
ReplyDeleteEm, OK I'll give 54 a shot. 25 is also corrupted (inaccurate length) but plays fine on foobar 2000. What player are you using? I could re-encode 25 though. Anyway, if we all cooperate we should be able to patch the bad tracks from the 2008 box (I don't think they are different remasters). ReplyDeletePhilip: So I just listened to track 1 of the DG Originals (2006) CD. Track 1 begins with two seconds of silence and is followed by gradually increasing presence of the strings. It doesn't commence abruptly, as the version I've downloaded twice here - and which corresponds to what Peter wrote above. Hope that's helpful.

ReplyDeleteThe 2" silence at the start of the track is missing from this mix. All the music is there. I suspect it is rather shoddy editing by DG who in their nifinite wisdom have deleted the 2" silences (obviously I don't have the 330 CD box set to play a CD from it for a direct comparison.

ReplyDeleteI've re-encoded cds 25 and 54 with foobar previously having removed attached artwork. Even when foobar reports files have been converted with major problems to my ears they play fine and the size of the cds reduces noticeably (cd 25 from 285 mb to 218 which may not seem a lot but in 330 cds it will make a difference) The audible ticks, I suspect were also due to attached artwork. Unless somebody mentions any other problem, I'll dl this box. Adding the re-encode task to this massive dl is sure a kick in the balls but good old K sure deserves taking the trouble. I guess the missing silence is just how cds were pressed. If the rip had been done with EAC we could be sure the fault is not in the ripping.

(My version consists of single files for each cd, with cue sheet) I will compare the earlier recording from that set in a few weeks, when I'm back at my computer. I would be surprised if our generous benefactor Thang had access to the original CDs, so unfortunately I don't think he will be able to provide other artwork (or replacements for the problem rips). Ah, interestingly discs 321 and 322 do not play from the beginning of the tracks. so some are faulty.

Here is all 8GB of the folder and back cover jpg files for the set. The file numbers are arbitrary and random - just the numbers from copying multiple files all called 'folder' or 'back' into the same destination.

Strangely, the alllossless set has exactly the same flawed discs as this set. So no improvement.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. From my understanding, sites often copy and share uploads. So perhaps alllossless obtained their version from Diabolus, or vice versa - and most likely they obtained it from somewhere else. (Which is also why the sharers cannot always repair and replace defective rips - they're not the originators.) Nonetheless, I'm grateful to Diabolus for making this extraordinary library available to us.
ReplyDeleteSome files are corrupted because of too large embedded pictures. Specification of FLAC doesn't allow pictures larger than 16 MB. Most of software refuses to decode such files. On Windows such files can be safely decoded by XMPlay. Also it is possible to manually fix them in HEX editor.
ReplyDeleteAs for VLC: it looses some samples (usually few thousands) on conversion of corrupted files. So your files will be no more bit-perfect copy.

ReplyDeleteOn most files, yes, mp3tag can remove picture. But it can't do this on files from CD 39. Also mp3tag doesn't remove padding that is remained after picture removal, so files still remain bloated. Also, some files are still reported by foobar2000 as corrupted after removing picture with mp3tag.
ReplyDeleteConfirmation that XMPlay really keeps audio stream bit-perfect is that converted files can be successfully verified with AccurateRip. After VLC - NO. You can test this on CD39.

ReplyDeleteHere's an easy way to view whether your FLACs have excessive padding (>1024 KiB) using MP3Tag. This mini-tutorial is for people who are not comfortable using CLI options.
1. Viewing metadata padding size in MP3Tag
Open MP3Tag
Right click the column header
Click the button new
For "Name: ", write
Padding (KiB)
For "Value: ", write
$div(%_tag_size%,1024)
Check the "Numeric" box
Optional: You can adjust the order of the new column header by clicking "Move up" or "Move down"
2. Removing excess metadata padding from within MP3Tag
Download and save flac_padding_remove.bat below. NOTE: If you don't want to have popup window to remain after the job is finished, just remove the @PAUSE line.
Edit the location of metaflac.exe in flac_padding_remove.bat if necessary
Run mp3tag
Go to the options menu: CTRL+O
In the option menu, go to Tools
Click the "star" icon
In the name field, enter whatever you like.
For path, click the folder icon and find flac_padding_remove.bat that you downloaded and saved (see below). Highlight the file and press open.
For parameters, copy and paste the formula below (it removes the terminal backslash):
"$regexp(%_folderpath%,'(^.*)(\\)',$1)"
To initiate the tool, just right click any file > Tools > Select the padding removal tool you just made

First of all I try to excuse me for my posting ... but there are (maybe not only for me) insoluble problems with the archives #14/#15 and #18. They are unable to extract complete ... Don' t worry there are still 327 (for the moment working) left. Never gone through all records, that will take a while.

DeleteI find so many of the albums on this site and boxset.me are sloppy, corrupt, stolen from other sites, lack even basic metadata and require a very great deal of time to make coherent. Two weeks in, and I'm still cleaning up the Karajan Official Remastered. However, tools like mp3tag will grab data from MusicBrainz and Discogs and sometimes save a lot of time. I'm really regretting the 90-day Nitroflare subscription and should have been content with 30 days and 25GB per day. SO MANY of the albums I want have expired and not been re-uploaded. Take a look at the Markevitch Legacy on DG. There are six Nitroflare files. Three are expired. Ugh...
